Free Comic Book Day

What better way to kick off the month of May than Free Comic Book Day at the SJCPL Main Library on Saturday, May 2. Free Comic Book Day was started in 2002 and occurs annually on the first Saturday in May. It is no accident that it occurs the day after the release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine! Activities at the library will start at 9 am and there will be free comic books, while they last, courtesy of BuyMeToys.com . Ages 12-18 can participate in comic book gaming from 9:30-noon. Stick around to learn how to make your own folded book from noon until 1:30. SJCPL always puts on terrific programs. Check this one out.

Newbery Award Winner

The word has been out now for a few days that Neil Gaiman’s book, The Graveyard Book, won the 2009 Newbery Award. While you are waiting to find a copy of the book to read, enjoy the author reading the entire book. After listening to the book, spend some time exploring some background information on the book as well as some extras about Coraline, the movie. Finished? Try playing sudoku with images from The Graveyard Book. Enjoy!

It’s That Time of Year Again!

It is once again time to fire up your curiosity and plan on attending Science Alive at the SJCPL Main Library on February 7, 2009. Regardless of your interest in science, you will find something to interest you. Find activities on the Rain Forest, creepy crawlers, the wonders of space and going green among many others. It is cold outside, plan on staying warm at the library while investigating the wonderful world of science!

Well, we’re in the count-down now. Four weeks from today is the 1st day of the new school year [groan]. I hope all of you are having a fantastic summer vacation.
